Since 2009, The Green Owl Cafe has aimed to provide Madison with the tastiest of heartwarming vegan comfort food, and as Madison’s longest-running completely vegetarian and vegan restaurant, we believe we have succeeded. While our emphasis is on take-out, deli retail, and catering, our soon-to-be remodeled dining area will create a cozy and casual ambiance with counter service and roughly 30 seats; including a full service bar with local beers and spirits and a seasonal patio. Our goal at The Green Owl Cafe is to create dishes that bring all appetites and diets together for the same thing: a delicious meal. Our menu includes a variety of shareable and small plate appetizers, lunch and dinner items with an emphasis on weekly specials, and our famous rotating dessert menu made by our in-house savant of all things sweet Cara Mosley.
A CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP:
In 2019 The Green Owl Cafe was bought by former staff member Erick Fruehling. Starting as a dishwasher, Erick worked his way up to kitchen manager in several short years. After sometime, life took Erick away from the Owl as he put his Botany degree to use working for the Department of Natural Resources studying plants, and toured the country playing music with his band. But, when the opportunity came to put all of his experiences back into his true passion of food, he couldn't pass it up. Erick remains committed to quality vegan food with locally sourced ingredients and continues to push The Green Owl Cafe in exciting new directions.
We are proud to be part of the Atwood/Schenk community and shop locally just like you! You will find Stalzy’s Deli, Madison Sourdough, Bandung Indonesian Restaurant, Simple Soyman, Voss Organics, Cha Cha Tea, Just Coffee and State Line Distillery on our plates and in our glasses.
